Description	Mural painting by Hugo Ballin at the Griffith Observatory, taken in 1934. The Roman figure indirectly illuminated is St. Florian, the patron saint of metallurgists. He is looking into fire. Per tradition, he could extinguish a fire with a single pitcher of water. Behind him is the most familiar attribute of metallurgists, a converter, In the center of the mural are symbols of electricity, the kite, lightning phenomenon, the hand of Franklin touching the key. On the right is Otto Von Buericke, with his electric machine of brimstone. He was a Burgermeister of Magdeburg, born 1602, died 1686. He invented the air-pump, air balance, and constructed the "Magdeburg hemispheres." Behind him is a modern dynamo and an internal combustion engine.
