The
town
of
Apple
Valley
,
nicknamed
the "
Apple
of the
Desert
",
is
located
in the
Victor
Valley
of
San
Bernardino
County
and was
incorporated
on
November
14
,
1988
.
It
is
located
at the
southern
edge
of the
Mojave
Desert
and
is
bordered
by
Victorville
on the
west
, and
Hesperia
on the
southwest
sides
. Its
elevation
is
approximately
2,900
feet
above
sea
level
, and the
primary
thoroughfare
is
State
Route
18
. For
centuries
Shoshonean
,
Paiute
,
Vanyume
,
Chemehueve
,
Serrano
and
Mojave
tribes
populated
Apple
Valley
, and
throughout
the
19th
century
,
it
became
a
thoroughfare
of
people
traveling
to
Southern
California
for
various
reasons
.
Today
,
is
best
known
for
two
of its
most
famous
residents
:
Roy
Rogers
and
Dale
Evans
,
who
resided
on
Outer
Highway
18
, and
whose
museum
was
first
established
in
Apple
Valley
in
1967
.
