purchased
property

1917
,

cottage-style
buildings

,
1918
, a
crowd

people
gathered
to

. In

of

. In the
mid-1930s
, the
hospital
built
a

,
which
was
dedicated
in
1937
-
it
was the
first
earthquake-resistant
hospital
in
California
. In
1955
, the
hospital
completed
a
new
200-bed
facility
at a
cost
of
$2.3
million
; by the
late
1950s
,
White
Memorial's
campus
was
spread
out
among
eight
city
blocks
, and the
medical
school
which
was
divided
between
Loma
Linda
and
White
Memorial
campuses
were
pressured
to
merge
to a
single
location
. In
1962
,
Loma
Linda
University
relocated
its
students
and
faculty
to a
consolidated
campus
in
Loma
Linda
. In
1963
, the
hospital's
ownership
was
transferred
from
Loma
Linda
University
to the
Southern
California
Conference
of
Seventh-day
Adventists
, a
division
of the
