Description	Photographer's caption reads, "The California Federal Building (1960) has hovered over a 25-foot hole in the ground, named "The Pit" by locals for 23 years. Originally the site of Coulter's Department Store (1938), then years later, the Broadway department Store. In 1980 the Art Deco building was demolished. Each proposal for development is presented to The Miracle Mile Residential Association, whose goal is "to try to look at each project in terms of the betterment of the community."
