Description	An unidentified man, wearing a black bucket hat, black tank top that shows a small portion of his tattoos, and holding his hands behind his back, stands apart from the crowd at the Cuban Festival in Echo Park. A small crowd of people can be seen in the background, all of them facing away from the camera, possibly toward a stage. The Echo Park Cuban Festival is the only major celebration in Los Angeles of Dia de la Independencia de Cuba (Cuban Independence Day), which commemorates the Caribbean Island's freedom from Spain on May 20, 1902. Thousands of people gather for this festival, which is usually held on the birthday of Cuban writer, poet, and patriot Jose Marti (1853-1895). The free family festival includes Cuban music, dancing, food, and art. Photograph dated May 17, 1998.
