Historical Data	Dr. Ford Ashman Carpenter, manager of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce department of meteorology and aeronautics for 22 years before his retirement in 1941 and one of the nation's aviation pioneers, died from coronary thrombosis on November 10, 1947 at Queen of Angels Hospital. The 79-year-old scientist, for many years in charge of the U.S. Weather Bureau in Los Angeles, had been ill several weeks. Dr. Carpenter, served as meteorological adviser to several large airlines, steamship companies, realty developments and the Hollywood Bowl. He advised the Congressional Naval Affairs Committee in 1930. He lectured at many colleges. A fellow of the American Meteorological Society, the Royal Meteorological Society of London, the Royal Geographical Society and the American Seismological Society, he was president of the Southern California Academy of Sciences from 1929 to 1931. He was a member of the Federation of Aeronautic International, of the Eighth International Geographic Congress at Washington, D.C. in 1904; of the Royal Geographic Society of London and of the San Diego Society of Natural History.
