Description	Photograph caption dated December 3, 1978 reads, "Everyone enjoys a laugh yesterday as Gov. Jerry Brown points out that a $986,096 check, a donation from Japanese businessmen to aid in construction of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center downtown, bears no signature. The amount represents over half the amount pledged for construction of the theater at the center on San Pedro Street between Second and Third streets, where a six-story office building is under construction. Others at the presentation are, from left, Shintaro Fukushima, representing the Japanese businessmen; Mayor Tom Bradley; Councilman Gilbert Lindsay; Kurt Myer, chairman of the city Redevelopment Agency; Katsuma Mukaeda, who received the check; and Wataru Miyakawa, Japanese consul general."
