Historical Data	Bando Tamasaburo is a Kabuki actor, and the world's most popular and celebrated 'onnagata' (or male actor who plays female parts) currently on stage. It is said that his physical beauty, grace, and subtle expressions are mesmerizing to watch. Born in 1950, Tamasaburo has been a Kabuki artist since childhood, designing his own sets and costumes, and performing in every genre from Shakespeare to dance. He has also acted in a handful of films and has collaborated with Western artists such as Yo-Yo Ma.
Description	Photograph shows Bando Tamasaburo in "Kurokami" (or 'Black Hair', which in olden times was the symbol of a woman's beauty). The dance portrays the feelings of "Oiran" a courtesan of the highest rank in a pensive mood, reflecting on her former love as she sits before her mirror. Photograph dated May 15, 1984.
