Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit."--Organization's web site.
Description	A member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence protests that Barbra Streisand's film "Yentl" was not nominated for major categories for the 56th Academy Awards. The "nun" is holding a collection can which reads, "Eddie Murphy Disease Fund." Streisand wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film, and her fans, who viewed the film as a major accomplishment, protested the Academy's minimal acknowledgment of it. The Awards ceremonies were held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 9, 1984.
