Description	A petition by the Ebell Club and other property owners to open Eighth Street to Wilshire Boulevard via Fremont Place is scheduled for consideration by the council's street opening and widening committee. The arrow in this photo, taken from the roof of the Ebell clubhouse, shows a hedge and fence which form a barrier across Eighth Street, barring traffic from the exclusive Fremont Place residential district, in background. Petitioners contend they paid heavy assessments for widening Eighth Street, but its value will not be realized until it is cut through Fremont Place, where the streets are privately owned.
