Historical Data	In preparation for the US Bicentennial celebration in 1976, Denny Crocker of Burbank suggested to Steve Eberle, a member of the Burbank Bicentennial Committee, that Burbank hydrants be painted with "Spirit of 76" motifs. Once city approval and standards were set, painters, of various ages and professions, decorated hydrants to represent historic themes and figures: Minutemen, soldiers, Loyalists, Red Coats, George Washington, Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Betsy Ross, and Molly Pitcher. Historical anachronisms (1970s clothing items, etc.) and anatomical suggestions were banned to keep the project as consistent and appropriate as possible. A large concentration of the painted hydrants were located around the former Burbank Golden Mall in the downtown area.
