Actor
George
Mann
(1905-1977)
grew
up
in
Silver
Lake
and
moved
to
Santa
Monica
as a
teenager
with his
parents
.
Starting
out
as a
vaudevillian
in the
mid-1920s
,
Mann
performed
with
various
groups
, with the
USO
during
WWII
, and
held
small
parts
in
several
movies
.
Mann
took
approximately
12,000
B&W
photographs
during
his
years
in
vaudeville
, and in the
early
1950s
, he
designed
a
3-D
viewer
for his
3-D
photographs
,
mostly
taken
around
Southern
California
. He
made
arrangements
to
lease
the
viewers
to
various
Los
Angeles
businesses
,
including
restaurants
,
bars
and
doctor's
offices
.
Every
couple
of
weeks
,
George
would
swap
out
the
photos
of
such
tourist
destinations
as
Disneyland
,
Knott's
Berry
Farm
,
Pacific
Ocean
Park
,
Watts
Towers
,
Catalina
Island
, and
Palm
Springs
. In the
early
1970s
,
George
was
hired
by
Quaker
Oats
to
portray
King
Vitaman
in
both
commercials
and on the
front
of the
cereal
box
. This
series
represents
the
images
Mann
took
of
Bunker
Hill
homes
in the
1960s
.
