This
collection
includes
approximately
40,000
photographs
by
commercial
photographer
Ralph
Morris
,
who
worked
in the
Los
Angeles
area
from
1939-1981
. His
advertising
and
industrial
clients
included
department
stores
,
restaurants
, the
automobile
and
petroleum
industries
as
well
as
business
executives
. Also
included
is
the
Luckhaus
Studio
collection
of
architecture
,
fashion
, the
movie
industry
,
sports
and
street
scenes
,
images
which
Morris
obtained
in
1939
.
Historical Data
The
Campbell
Apartments
were
built
by
Reginald
Campbell
in
1928
. He
bought
the
Lafayette
Hotel
next
door
in
order
to
protect
the
apartments
.
Currently
both
buildings
, as
well
as the
Lafayette
addition
, are
part
of the
Lafayette
Complex
and have been
declared
Long
Beach
Historic
Landmark
16.52.270
. The
architects
were
Parker
O
.
Wright
and
Francis
H
.
Gentry
.
Description
Aerial
view
of the
Campbell
Apartments
at
130
Linden
Avenue
, an
eleven-story
Spanish
Renaissance
building
that
provided
deluxe
apartments
with
hotel
service
.
Scroll
and
swag
decorations
begin
at the
second
floor
and
pyramid
up
to the
fourth
. An
ornamental
balcony
is
on the
ninth
floor
. The
central
entrance
is
bell-cast
in
shape
and
flanked
by
windows
on
each
side
.
Oil
derricks
crowd
the
horizon
from
right
to
left
.
