Theosophy
is
a
doctrine
of
religious
philosophy
and
metaphysics
,
which
originated
with
Helena
Petrovna
Blavatsky
. In
1875
,
Blavatsky
,
along
with
Henry
Steel
Olcott
,
William
Quan
Judge
and a
few
others
,
founded
the
Theosophical
Society
in
New
York
City
.
Theosophy
teaches
that what
is
known
as
human
is
actually
a
Spiritual
Nature
classically
called
the "
Monad
", or
Higher
Self
, and that
all
individual
beings
,
regardless
of the
kingdom
in
which
they
exist
(human
,
animal
,
vegetable
or
mineral)
, are
involved
in an
inextricably
interconnected
single
life
. The
Theosophical
Society
was
strongest
in the
1920s
, with
around
7,000
members
in the
United
States
.
