Historical Data	Claudette Colbert (1903-1996), born in France and raised in New York City, was an Academy Award-winning film and theater actress noted for performances in screwball comedies as well as dramatic roles. She began her career in Broadway in 1925, signed a film contract with Paramount Pictures in 1929, and by 1938 she had become the highest paid actress in Hollywood, with a salary of $426,924. Colbert won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1934 for her role in "It Happened One Night"; in 1935 she received a second Academy Award nomination for her role in "Private Worlds"; she remained active until the late 1980's. After suffering a series of strokes in 1993,Claudette Colbert died in Barbados on July 30, 1996 at the age of 92. Her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located at 6812 Hollywood Blvd.
