Historical Data
The
Palm
Springs
Tennis
Club
(PSTC)
,
built
in
1937
by
Pearl
McManus
,
boasted
as
having
the
world's
two
finest
tennis
courts
and a
round
swimming
pool
nestled
against
the
rocks
and
flanked
by
v-shaped
palm
trees
.
Because
of this, the
pool
became
the
most
photographed
and
copied
swimming
pool
in the
west
. The
Clubhouse
opened
in
February
1938
and was
designed
by
famed
Los
Angeles
architect
Paul
Williams
,
inspired
by a
monastery
in
Amalfi
,
Italy
.
Early
tennis
club
members
included
numerous
celebrities
as
well
as
some
tennis
greats
. The
tennis
club
became
a
timeshare
property
in
1980
, and
rentals
are
open
to the
public
.
Today
, there
is
a
63-unit
hotel
,
plus
63
private
bungalows
,
11
tennis
courts
,
three
swimming
pools
(including
the
original)
,
five
spas
, a
fitness
center
, and a
stylish
restaurant
and
patio
dining
. The
Palm
Springs
Tennis
Club
,
located
at the
extreme
west
of
Baristo
Road
,
is
a
Palm
Springs
Historical
Site
and
is
owned
by
Harold
Matzner
.
