Historical Data	Ronald Wilson Reagan (1911-2004) was born in Illinois and moved to Los Angeles in the 1930s, where he became an actor and president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Originally a member of the Democratic Party, he switched to the Republican Party in 1962 at the age of 51. A few years later, Reagan sought and won the governorship seat, becoming the 33rd Governor of California in 1967, and again in 1970. Reagan also ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968 as well as 1976, losing both times, but eventually won both the nomination and election in 1980, becoming the 40th U.S. President, serving from 1981-1989. In 1994, the former President was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and died ten years later at the age of 93. Ronald Reagan holds the distinction of being the only California Governor to become President of the United States.
