Historical Data	Affiliated with the original Progressive Party and later with the Republican Party, C. C. Young (Clement Calhoun Young, 1869-1947), was elected to five consecutive terms to the California State Assembly (1909-1919); then, as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of California (1919-1927); and lastly, as the 26th Governor of California (1927-1931). Young was defeated in the party's 1930 primary election by charismatic San Francisco Mayor, James Rolph. Republican James "Sunny Jim" Rolph, Jr. (1869-1934), served as the 30th Mayor of San Francisco (1912-1931), until his resignation to become the 27th Governor of California (1931-1934). Sadly, Rolph died at the age of 65 - just three years into his Governorship term. He remains the longest serving Mayor in San Francisco history, a position that he held for 18 years. C. C. Young died in 1947 at the age of 77.
