Description	Rogerio Rocha, a famous Fernanden~o Indian silversmith and blacksmith, gathers cactus fruit at Mission San Fernando. He was also a flutist, chorister and master of ceremonies for the Mission. Born in 1801 in the village of Mapanga, later San Fernando, Calif., he was trained by the Franciscan missionaries in his trade. Rocha settled on ten acres in San Fernando, currently the northeast corner of Hubbard and Fourth, and lived there with his wife until 1885 when Charles MaClay, who had purchased the land title "San Fernando Grant" through a court probate, had him and his family evicted. He died homeless in 1906. Photograph dated: 1898.
