Description	Northeast corner of Grand Avenue and 9th Street, where one end of the Stillwell Hotel can be seen on the left. The 250-room Stillwell was built in 1906 and is located at 838 S. Grand, between 8th and 9th. "FIREPROOF HOTEL" is painted high on the wall, in large capital letters. Mid-photo in the background, a cupola peeks from behind another building, the sign on it reads: "Hill Street Theatre". This refers to the RKO Hill Street Theater, which occupied the northwest corner of 8th and Hill Street. It had a seating capacity of 2,219 and ran for 46 years, from 1922 to 1968. It was demolished in 1968. To the right, another (unidentified) hotel blows black smoke from a smoke stack on the roof. On the very corner, in front of all mentioned structures, stands Red Crown Gasoline station, offering Zerolene and Mobiloil. It is owned and operated by Ed. Willumsen, a "correct lubrication specialist"; it is possible he also owns Ed's Auto Livery, which is adjacent to the gasoline station. Several cars can be seen waiting for the light to change along 9th Street. Photo dated: April 1927.
