Description	Photo taken on 8th Street, looking east, toward Main, Spring, and Broadway streets. Three prominent buildings can be seen on the right of the photograph: 1) Corner of 8th and Main is the Great Republic Life Insurance Building, built in 1927; 2) Corner of 8th and Spring, with a castle-like tower is the Copeland Building, also known as "The Armory Building". Offices for The Evening News once occupied the bottom floor, and it also served as premises for the Post Office for a short time; 3) Corner of 8th and Broadway, the Los Angeles Investment Building (Charles C. Chapman Building), built in 1912 by Ernest McConnell. It stood as one of the tallest and most lavish buildings of its day, with 13 floors, it was within the height limit of the time. The Chapman, listed as a City of Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument, is being renovated into residential condos, ranging in price from $300,000 to $1,000,000 for a one-bedroom, one-bath unit, with completion estimated for the summer of 2007. Numerous banners and flags with stars and stripes adorn all of the buildings and hang as far as the eye can see.
