Images in the photo collection are intended for personal use only. Any reproduction, redistribution, publication, or other use, by any means, without prior written permission is prohibited.
Digital prints and digital files can be provided. With the proper fees and permissions, many images can be used in commercial and non-profit applications.
The following fee schedule and revised order form is in effect as of February 26, 2020.
To order photographs displayed under Photo Collection on Tessa, complete and submit this order form. This form is for the Photo Collection only. Inquiries relating to reproductions for other collections in Tessa can be directed to specialcollections@lapl.org.
If paying by credit card (Visa or Mastercard only), the completed form can be emailed to photos@lapl.org or faxed to (213) 228-7419.
Checks drawn on U.S. funds can be made payable to "Los Angeles Public Library" and mailed to: Los Angeles Public Library, Attn Photo Collection, 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071
When selecting photos make sure to record the "Order Number" provided in each record, listed in numerical order. Incomplete order forms will result in a delay in processing. Please note that use fees may apply. Please see below.
For personal and commercial uses of the Library's images, once the completed order form is received, the Library will send to the user a Photographic Stills Release Form which states permissions to images and copyright restrictions. This agreement must be returned to the library before the order will be processed.
When using the library’s images, the proper credit line is: [Photographer (if given)], [Collection Name]/Los Angeles Public Library
Please note, the abbreviation “LAPL” should never be used.
Depending on the size of the order, turnaround time is one week, or five business days, from receipt of the signed Release Form (issued after the completed order form is submitted) and payment. For expedited service, with a turnaround time of two business days, there will be an additional surcharge of $25 per image, pending the availability of staff to accommodate the request.

Individuals using the photographs for home decor, research, or other personal uses, need only pay the photographic reproduction fee.
